CHICO, CA (7-4-09) - It was an emotional night for Bud Kaeding in victory lane at Chico. Not only were we as fans were celebrating America's Independence on July 4th but also for Kaeding he was celebrating something that had eluded him for many years, a visit into victory lane at Silver Dollar Speedway. Kaeding' last win came in October of 1997. The following March is when Kaeding suffered a terrible accident during the Mini Gold Cup. Since his crash Kaeding had never been able to find his way back onto the front straight and basking in the glory of being the victor. That all ended tonight when he led all 30-laps to capture not only his first King of California main event of the year but also add that next win in his career at Chico, roughly some 12 years later. Tyler Walker finished in the second spot while Jonathan Allard came home third. A total of 27 King of California Golden State Series sprint cars entered point race #17.Bud Kaeding earned the right to start on the pole position by winning the six-lap dash. Kaeding got the jump on fellow front row starter Jonathan Allard at the start of the race. Tyler Walker then passed Allard for the second spot. Jason Statler held on to the fourth spot until lap three when Brent Kaeding passed him. As the race continued it was becoming clear that the track was starting to take rubber. While this provides a lot of green flag racing laps it is not very conducive for a lot of passing. The field ran nose to tail for many of the circuits. At times the leaders would begin to negotiate slower cars but soon well-timed yellows put an end to any hope of mixing up the leaders with slower cars. On lap 18 Tyler Spath stopped off turn four to bring out the yellow. This slowed the event and most of the drivers were running through the bottom of the track trying to cool off their tires.

Two more laps were recorded until Brad Bumgarner stopped on the backstretch. With ten laps to go it was up to Kaeding not to make a mistake and keep his car glues to the sticky spots in the track. Walker tried to mount a charge and at times looked to the bottom of Kaeding but was never able to mount a successful pass for the lead. On lap 26 Colby Copeland brought out the final caution with a flat right rear. It had to put some worry into the top drivers if tire wear was going to be an issue. The green flag waived once again and it was an all out assault for the final four laps. Kaeding never faulted and was able to pull away from Walker and win the 30-lap race. Allard finished in the third spot. Brent Kaeding came home fourth and Statler was fifth. For Statler it was his second night in a row to finish in the fifth spot.

Brett Miller was the night's hardest charger. Miller started 16th and finished eighth. To put an interesting spin on the two nights of racing for the 410 sprint cars, we took a look at Friday night's top five finishers in the main event and compared that to Saturday night. The top five from Friday were Brent Kaeding, Jonathan Allard, Jason York, Bud Kaeding and Jason Statler. On Saturday night, those five were the top six finishers. The lone exception was second place finisher Tyler Walker who did not compete on Friday night. There were 55 laps of main event racing completed and the top five drivers were basically the same for both nights.

Allard captured his sixth fast time award of the year by turning a lap of 12.058. Robbie Whitchurch, Evan Suggs and Brent Kaeding were winners of the three heat race events. Brad Bumgarner dominated the 12-lap B feature.

Daniel Weger won an exciting 20-lap Dwarf Car main event. The traveling series brought 22 competitors to the speedway. The early part of the main event dragged on with six cautions in the first 10 laps. Yet, that was quickly forgotten by the amazing four-car battle near the end of the event. Weger lost the lead to Mike Grenert on a few occasions only to work the topside to his likening and take the lead back from Grenert. Ryan Winter and Patrick Weger along with Kevin Bender all put on a great show slicing and dicing for the top sots. When Weger crossed the finish line first the crowd were on their feet in giving praise to these drivers for their efforts. Grenert finished second and was followed by Winter. Kevin Bender, Daniel Weger and Mike Grenert won the three hear race events.
