CHICO, CA (5-24-10) - When it comes to traditions at the annual Silver Dollar Fair, the sight of winged sprint cars before a colorful backdrop of carnival sights and sounds is right up at the top of the list with cotton candy, funnel cakes and the Ferris Wheel. It's fair time at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds this week and numerous motor sports activities will include the fire breathing sprint cars of the Civil War Sprint Car Series.

When it comes to high action thrills, the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Series will never let an avid open wheel race fan down and is sure to bring a first time spectator back to the track once they witness the spectacle. The latest version of California's premier series for 360 cubic inch powered winged sprint cars has already begun to produce a stellar chase for the coveted statewide championship title.

This year, the Hoosier Tires sponsored series will compete for more than $240,000 over the year and nearly $25,000 in championship funds, barring any rained out events during the year. Additional contingency sponsors throughout the year are expected to exceed $30,000 in product awards as well.

This weekend this California based motorized Rodeo will be part of three different motor sports venues at the Silver Dollar Speedway. On Saturday night championship point racing kicks off the series of events with Wingless Sprint Cars and Street Stocks resuming their campaign in the Feather Falls Casino championship season along with 360 sprint cars that will be in competition for a non-point event on Saturday night.

On Sunday night the open wheel racing heats up as the Civil War Sprint Car Series takes to Silver Dollar Speedway for its first visit of the year. The Memorial Day weekend concludes with the inaugural Silver Dollar Fair Destruction Derby presented by Dutch Holland on Monday afternoon.

Sunday's event for the Civil War Series is the fourth event in the 2010 series that competes at six different California tracks throughout the year. The event will pay $3000 to the winner and $300 just to start the feature race. This is the premier traveling series for winged 360 powered sprint cars in California. Sunday's event is one of just two visits to Silver Dollar Speedway, the series returns September 8th to open the Gold Cup Race of Champions with the "Pacific Sprint Cup Invitational."

Entering Sunday's event, Sacramento's "Hang On" Herman Klein continues to dominate the point lead of this thrilling series. Klein won the season opener at Placerville Speedway back in March and now has two top five finishes and three top ten finishes to his name. Sitting close behind Klein is four time series champion, "Mr. Excitement" Andy Forsberg of Auburn, also a one time series winner this season. Forsberg is just two points behind Klein after three events.

Mason Moore of Princeton is currently sitting third in the standings. The driver known as "Primetime" is just 11-points out of the lead and sits a mere point ahead of Sacramento's Mike Henry, a former series champion that is known for his "win it or wear it" racing style that has led him to many accolades. Steve Tiner of Visalia rounds out the top five in the point standings with two top ten finishes.

Silver Dollar favorite Sean "The Shark" Becker is sixth in the standings. Becker is the defending two time series champion and has titles at Silver Dollar Speedway as well as the traveling Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series. Becker is positioned to make history in 2010 if he can become the first driver to win three consecutive Civil War titles.

Bradley Terrell of Sebastapol is seventh overall followed by Justin Sanders, Kenny Allen and Nicole Miller. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 cars are expected on Sunday night. This event routinely draws many drivers from all areas of California and out of state due to its Sunday night scheduling. One such driver that will make his Silver Dollar Speedway debut will be John Gaston of Phoenix Arizona. Gaston has been traveling throughout California in recent weeks with his Kronik Energy sprint car team.

Sunday's event will be well worth the price of admission as the Civil War Series brings nearly 40 of California's high speed rebels without a cause to the exciting banks of Silver Dollar Speedway for a bargain price. All of the weekend's racing action is free with admission to the Silver Dollar Fair. Adults are $7, Children 6-12 are $3 and under six are free. Seniors are $5.00 to enter the fair. This is an incredible value that offers hours of entertainment over the holiday weekend.

The Civil War Series is managed by Handy Racing Promotions Inc. in cooperation with the participating tracks on the tour including Petaluma Speedway, Calistoga Speedway, Silver Dollar Speedway, American Valley Speedway and Ocean Speedway.
