CHICO, CA (5-30-10) - Chico's Stephen Allard led all 30-laps of the Sunday night Hosier Racing Tire California Civil War Series at his hometown track the Silver Dollar Speedway. Allard held off a hard charging Mason Moore on the final lap to survive and get the win. Moore charged to the outside of Allard and almost was able to make the pass for the win. However, Moore ended up crashing backwards into the turn four wall as Allard kept going and crossed the finish line with the checkered flag in the air. Moore got out of his car and walked towards Allard who had stopped in victory lane. Moore offered Allard a high five and an embrace as the two were very complimentary of each other. Later in the night Moore was taken to the hospital and had x-rays on his back that had been broken last year. Happy to report the x-rays were negative and Moore was back at his house resting. "It feels so good to finally get a win back here in Chico. We just won a race at Placerville too and since I have hooked up with this team we have been really good," said Allard. "I hate to see what happened to Mason at the end there but he is a young, tough kid who is going to win a lot races in the future."A total of 49 cars entered point race #4 during the 2010 Civil War season. Tonights race annually coincides with the Silver Dollar Fair. With that said, the grandstands and bleachers were packed and the whole facility had an energetic buzz throughout the nights racing program.

Auburn's Andy Forsberg finished the race in the second spot. After starting on the pole he was passed by Allard coming out of turn two on the first lap. From there Forsberg was in tire conservation mode and was happy just to be smart and think about the big picture. After getting passed by Willie Croft and then later by Moore, Forsberg was able to finish the race and officially be scored in the second spot. "It was a good points night for us," said Forsberg. "I played it conservative tonight and just wanted to bring the car home in one piece."

The hardest charger of the night was Geoff Ensign. What a remarkable run this kid from Sebastopol gave his family owned #5. Ensign won the 10-lap C main event. From there he started in the last row of the B main. In 12-laps he grabbed the final transfer spot, finishing sixth. In the 30-lap main event Ensign lined up dead last, 22nd starting spot. Ensign survived, advanced and passed his way into a third place finish. In all, Ensign advanced 30 positions throughout the B and A main event. "Finishing third at Chico in a Civil War event is like a win to me," an emotional Ensign said in a post race interview. "We had to use the same tire we ran in the B main and it's just awesome what we accomplished as a team tonight."

Shane Golobic was just as good as Ensign. Golobic finished second to Ensign in the C Main. From there he finished fifth in the B main. Golobic started 21st in the main event and finished seventh. Between the C, B and A main Golobic in the #121 sprint car advanced 30 spots. It was an impressive night of racing to watch those two drivers charge to the front.

Sean Becker came home in the fourth spot. Becker ran in the top five for all 30 laps but was never able to crack into the top two. Rounding out the top five was Colby Wiesz. He was driving the Main Family sprint car this weekend and had two nights of top five finishes. The car displayed the #77 in tribute to Jesse Hockett. Hockett was scheduled to race the Main car later this month at Placerville and Chico. Wiesz brought out the car after the National Anthem and did a few memorial laps in honor of Hockett. The packed grandstand stood in honor of Hockett and gave a loud ovation once Wiesz had slowed down.

Willie Croft made the first part of the main event race exciting. Croft charged around Forsberg for second and then made his move on Allard for the lead. Yet, going through turns one and two Croft drifted off the edge of the track and crashed into the back straight away wall. His car was too damaged to return. Croft should be commended for his hard charging effort.

Brett Miller was another driver that charged to the front but ended up without the results he deserved. Miller started in the 18th spot and worked his way up to fourth position just past the half way point. On lap 22 Miller had an issue that sent his car off the track and came to a stop. Miller restarted at the rear of the field but a few laps later had another problem and was given an 18th finishing spot.

Jeremy Burt won the 12-lap B main event. Burt passed Chad Compton for the lead half way through the event. Burt would start the main event in the 13th and finished sixth. Compton finished second in the B main and was followed by Justin Sanders, and Robbie Whitchurch.

Point leader Herman Klein had a tough night. He crashed on the first lap of the main event and was not able to restart the race. He returned to the track after a long stint in the pit area and many laps down. To his credit and the teams he gained a few spots to finish 19th.

Mason Moore started off the night by turning the fastest lap in qualifying. The time was 12.057. Interestingly, Moore was the first driver to qualify and the next 48 drivers were unable to match his time.

Heat races were won by Dan Menne, Brad Furr, Brett Miller and Mike Henry. The third heat race got off to a scary start when Eric Humphries violently flipped down the front straight and ended up coming to a stop way off turn one. He was able to get out of the car and taken back to his pit area.

The overall weekend was a blast. Amazing crowds, wonderful car counts and great weather made this weekend a memorable one for those who attended it. Racing at the Silver Dollar Speedway continues this Friday night, June 4th. It is a make up date for an earlier night that was rained out.
