CHICO, CA (8-8-10) - The 57th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions is just weeks ahead at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico and the event that awards over $213,000 in winnings is shaping up in the form of action on the track and off during September 8, 9, 10 and 11 at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico.This event is California's sole late season venue for the nationally known World of Outlaw's Sprint Car Series and culminates with the $50,000 to win feature event on Saturday night, September 11th. Friday night marks the return of the famed Miss Gold Cup Bikini Contest in the Silver Dollar Pavilion. This event has been a key fixture with the Gold Cup Race of Champions for decades. The Gold Cup Race of Champions features four big nights of open wheel competition and a variety of exciting divisions this year. It all starts on Wednesday, September 8 with three different divisions taking to the Silver Dollar Speedway quarter mile. The opening night of racing features 360 cubic inch powered sprint cars in the annual "Pacific Sprint Cup" Invitational event, the crown jewel of California's premier traveling series for winged 360 sprint cars, the Civil War Sprint Car Series. The winged sprint cars will be joined in 2010 by two additional open wheel classes for an incredible kick off to the week of racing.

Joe Hunt Magnetos will be involved in more than just the Chili Feed in 2010 as the wingless sprint cars of the Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Shootout will share the spotlight along with the mighty midgets of the Bay Cities Racing Association. This will mark the first time these three divisions have come together in one open wheel extravaganza that is just the beginning of a huge week of racing in California.

The Wednesday night event is general admission with no reserved seating and is just a high octane warm up to the following days to come. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday the nations best drivers come together with the best of California as the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Tour concludes its annual Gold Rush Tour on the banks of Silver Dollar Speedway.

In 2009, race fans witnessed a race they will long remember when Joey Saldana powered out of the final turn to steal the victory at the line from race leader Jason Sides. It was one of the closest finishes of the season in World of Outlaws competition.
