CHICO, CA (8-16-10) -Â And then there were two. Just two more nights of Feather Falls Casino point championship auto racing at the Silver Dollar Speedway for the 2010 season. None of the titles have been decided yet and things are guaranteed to heat up with only the two nights remaining on the schedule. Two driver are in search of their second track title at Chico. Yet, each have taken different paths to get there.
This Friday is Riebes Auto Parts night at the speedway. Riebes is the official Auto Parts Store for both Silver Dollar Speedway and Placerville Speedway. On hand this Friday night will be the 410 winged sprint cars, street stocks, Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprints Shootout Series and the ASCS Midgets.
Front grandstand gate will open at 6pm. Adult general admission is $12.00, juniors and seniors are $10.00 and children $5.00. Sprint car qualifying is slated for 7pm. Championship auto racing is slated to follow the sprint car qualifying.
Chico's Jason York leads the sprint car point championship. It has been well documented that York won a previous championship in 2000. York holds a 17-point lead over Redding driver Tyler Wolf. York was interviewed last week for the Silver Dollar Minute that airs on local television channel 12 and 24. When asked about the big gap in between his first championship and his potential chance at this years title he said, "You know after the title in 2000 I thought I was on my way. I was probably thinking I'd have five titles in ten years but things didn't go that way. If I am able to win it this year I think I will appreciate this one more because I can now see how hard these titles are to win and how luck and circumstances play a big part in it."
Right now the real battle is for second. Wolf holds a five-point lead over both Brett Miller and Mark Hall. Rookie sensation Kenny Allen is just nine-points behind Hall and Miller. Wolf has been the surprise of the year. A relative new comer to winged sprint car racing. In fact, he got his start in go-karts before moving into a spec sprint and the into the winged division. Miller probably seemed like the favorite a few weeks ago. Yet, he was called to fight a fire and had to miss the previous Friday night show. Hall has had an up and down year to say the least. His Grass Valley team is as good as it gets and continues to be the glue that holds them in the thick of the chase.
The street stocks are set to return this Friday night. The Heather Bartlett watch continues as she holds a 19-point lead over former champion Scott Rogers. Bartlett is the first female to win a track championship at Silver Dollar Speedway. She has been solid this year in search of back to back titles. The tightest battle is between third place Phil Marino and Joe Longmire. Marino leads by just three points over Longmire for the third place finish. Matt Magenheimer sits in the fifth spot.
The last time the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Series visited the Silver Dollar Speedway there were 28 drivers on hand for the Friday night show. Needless to say, the same is expected this Friday night. Veteran Terry Schank Jr. holds a 17-point advantage over Taylor Simas. Schank Jr. has had another great year at Chico. His four wins are the most of any wingless driver in 2010 at Chico. For the Joe Hunt Series, this will be there eleventh race this season. The popular series has had over 60 drivers earn points in its inaugural year. Johnny Reeves holds down the third spot. Just six points behind is Billy Wallace. Wallace has three wins this year. Jerry Cisco rounds out the top five.
Mason Moore is subbing for Dillon Silverman this Friday night in the ASCS Midgets. Moore is good friends with Silverman and is set to wheel the potent midget. Silverman has three wins at Chico this year and is coming off a win in Oregon, but, will miss this Friday because he is flying back to Bristol to watch the NASCAR races. Moore, one of the top sprint car drivers in Northern California, will pilot the #12 midget. Joining him should be Travis Haugh and Lonnie Alton. This will be the final ASCS show of the year at Chico. The BCRA Midgets will race on Wednesday night, September 8th. They will join the Civil War Sprints and Joe Hunt Wingless Series.
