Civil War rebels head back to Chico for prestigious Pacific Sprint Cup
CHICO, CA (8-31-11) -Â Every race that the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series presents during the year is always spectacular in nature. This coming Wednesday, September 7 that is sure to be the case once again as series will compete in its annual crown jewel event, the Pacific Sprint Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico.
The Pacific Sprint Cup features the top 32 drivers in the current Civil War Series point standings in an invitational that is the highest paying Civil War Series event of the year. Additionally, the special weeknight event acts as the opener for the big four day Gold Cup Race of Champions week at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds.
When it comes to the Pacific Sprint Cup it is the best of the west converging in an invitational event that not only pays $3000 to the winner but offers a caliber of bragging rights like no other. Not only have these 32 drivers earned their position in the event by means of blood, sweat and tears during the series campaign but they get the opportunity to compete before an audience that includes travelers from all of the United States that trek to the small town of Chico for the annual week of speed. Those fans are sure to be thrilled with this year's Civil War court as it takes to the track on Wednesday night along with the Wingless Sprint Cars.
Topping the entry list for the Pacific Sprint Cup will be five time series champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn. Forsberg continues to lead the point standings in the Civil War campaign as he eyes a historical sixth series title. For Forsberg, the Chico clay is quite familiar as he finished second in the 2011 weekly Friday night championship there and has multiple wins in the annual Pacific Sprint Cup as well.
Forsberg currently leads the Civil War point standings with a 20-point advantage. He has dominated the victory column in the series this year with five feature wins and nine top ten finishes in 11 starts. Steven Tiner of Visalia is Forsberg's biggest threat entering the Pacific Sprint Cup. Tiner is second in the standings and has one feature win to his name and seven top ten finishes.
Sitting in third place is former Silver Dollar Speedway Rookie of the Year and one of California's most competitive drivers regardless of the venue, Kyle Hirst of Sacramento. Hirst has one feature win to his name in the Civil War tour and is just 26-points out of the lead in third place. Fourth place is held by Penngrove's Alissa Geving. Recently crowned as the Petaluma Speedway track champion for the third time in her career, Geving is 67-points behind the leader in the Civil War Series.
Former two time Civil War Champion Sean Becker of Roseville rounds out the top five in the series. Becker is 85 points out of the lead entering the Wednesday event. Jeremy Burt of Grass Valley is sixth overall followed by Sacramento's Herman Klein who is seventh. Mike Henry of Sacramento continues to hold the eighth position despite missing the last three series events. Chase Johnson of Penngrove sits ninth in the ranks followed by Pope Valley's Jeff Parady.
All seating is reserved for the Wednesday night event at Silver Dollar Speedway. The gates will open at 5 p.m. on Wednesday night with qualifying beginning at 6:30. The winged sprint cars will share the spotlight with the Wingless Sprint Car Invitational of the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Series.
