Top racing at a bargain price; Civil War Series bound for Chico Fair

CHICO, CA (5-23-12) - When it comes to traditions at the annual Silver Dollar Fair, the sight of winged sprint cars before a colorful backdrop of carnival sights and sounds is right up at the top of the list with cotton candy, funnel cakes and the Ferris Wheel. It's fair time at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds this week and numerous motor sports activities will include the fire breathing sprint cars of the Civil War Sprint Car Series.

When it comes to high action thrills, the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Series will never let an avid open wheel race fan down and is sure to bring a first time spectator back to the track once they witness the spectacle. The latest version of California's premier series for 360 cubic inch powered winged sprint cars has already begun to produce a stellar chase for the coveted statewide championship title.

On Sunday night the open wheel racing heats up as the Civil War Sprint Car Series takes to Silver Dollar Speedway for its first visit of the year. The Memorial Day weekend race concludes two straight nights of Civil War Series action as the tour competes at Marysville Raceway Park on Saturday night for the Mel Hall Memorial.

"This is a great weekend for the Civil War Series," said defending champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn. "It's great to have the series back at Marysville, they have done a lot with the track and they deserve this series. The fair race at Chico is always a great event and brings new faces to the track that are sure to come back after they see a race like this."

Entering the weekend of racing, Rohnert Park's Brett Rollag is currently tied for the lead with Elk Grove native Kyle Hirst. Napa's Richard Bailey is third in the standings tied with Prunedale's Justin Sanders while Herman Klein of Sacramento sits in the fifth position over Cameron Park's Stephen Allard. Former champion Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove is 7th in the ranks over Penngrove's Chase Johnson. Sitting in the ninth position is Colby Wiesz of Colfax, a three time Marysville track champion with multiple wins in the Mel Hall Memorial when it was a regular point's race.

Look for former series champions Andy Forsberg of Auburn and Sean Becker of Antelope to utilize the double header weekend to launch themselves in the point standings. Becker is currently ranked in the 11th position while Forsberg is 14th.

Sunday's event will be well worth the price of admission as the Civil War Series brings nearly 40 of California's high speed rebels without a cause to the exciting banks of Silver Dollar Speedway for a bargain price. All of the weekend's racing action is free with admission to the Silver Dollar Fair. Adults are $8, Children 6-12 are $3 and under six are free. This is an incredible value that offers hours of entertainment over the holiday weekend.

The Civil War Series is managed by Handy Racing Promotions Inc. in cooperation with the participating tracks on the tour including Petaluma Speedway, Calistoga Speedway, Silver Dollar Speedway, American Valley Speedway and Marysville Raceway Park.
