CHICO, CA (5-27-12) - Defending Series Champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn drove his way to his first victory of the season in the traveling Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series Sunday night. The event was round three of the competitive traveling campaign for 360 cubic inch powered winged sprint cars and was one of most popular venues on the annual tour as it brought the tour to the famed Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for the annual Silver Dollar Fair.

"It's always great to come back to Chico and race here during the Silver Dollar Fair", said Forsberg. "This race brings our regular fans to the track for a great price but it brings a lot of new faces to the race track that will come back and become future fans."

Driving the Pit Stop USA #X1 sprint car fielded by FnF Racing, Forsberg dominated field on Sunday night at Silver Dollar Speedway. A total of 43 cars entered the event and Forsberg was the fifth fastest driver in the field with a lap time of 12:869. Mason Moore of Princeton was the fast qualifier of the night with a 12:697 while Fremont's Shane Golobic timed in with the second position at 12:765. Steven Tiner of Visalia was third with a 12L822 and Stephen Allard of Cameron Park was fourth turning a 12:869.

Finishing third in his preliminary heat race, Forsberg secured a starting position in Sunday's 30-lap feature event. The six time Civil War Series Champion started on the outside of the front row for the money race, outside of pole sitter Colby Wiesz of Colfax. At the drop of the green flag Wiesz powered into the lead on a dry slick track until Forsberg reeled in the Colfax Comet shortly thereafter and passed for the lead on the low side of the third turn. Once in front the driver known as Mr. Excitement never relinquished the lead. When the checkered flag dropped, Forsberg impressively captured his 95th career victory.

Wiesz finished second at the line followed by Golobic and Tiner. Moore rounded out the top five over Saturday night winner Kyle Hirst of Elk Grove. Allard was 7th at the line followed by Jake Haulot, Geoff Ensign and Herman Klein to complete the top ten.

In preliminary action on Sunday night, the B feature was claimed by Golobic who held off Klein for the win. Allard was third over Hirst followed by Chase Johnson and Richard Bailey. Jeremy Burt of Grass Valley won the C feature Sunday. Bert was followed across the line by Phillip De Larosa, Taylor Simas and Jeremy Phillips. Heat races were claimed by Billy Wallace, Matt Shelton, Mike Monahan and David Tarter.

Following Sunday's event the Civil War point standings have Hirst in the point lead with a five point advantage over Wiesz. Forsberg is third, six points from the leader. Fourth place is owned by Allard who is back 20-points from the lead while former champion Greg DeCaires rounds out the top five, tied with Allard. The next Civil War event will bring the tour back to Chico on Friday, June 15th for the fourth event of the year.
