Two Champions Crowned on Friday Night

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400"]Two Champions Crowned on Friday Night Photo by Steven Cox [sprintcarphotos.com][/caption]CHICO, CA (8-24-12) - Eighteen year old Rowdy McClenon can now be called a champion. "It feels great. I love it," said McClenon from the front stretch after the races were over. He was down there to accept his Championship in front of the crowd. McClenon finished the race in the fifth spot but had wrapped up the championship once he took the original green flag. The drive of the night went to Terry Schank Jr. who came from the eighth starting spot and won the main event. It was his third consecutive Pepsi night win and so he will get to keep the 6ft trophy forever. "It's Pepsi night. My wife likes Coke and I like Pepsi and I would race this one just for five bucks," said Schank. Braedon Enos lead a god amount of laps early in the race. He went on to finish in the second spot. Ron LaPlant locked down the third finishing spot. Tony Richards and then McClenon rounded out the top five. Richards and Schank each won their heat races. A big congrats to Rowdy, his father and entire team, family and everyone involved with this Championship. They all should be very proud.

Randy McDaniel didn't have the main event he envisioned but it was good enough to win his seventh dirt modified track title at Chico. McDaniel made two laps as the leader before pulling into the infield and calling it a night. This gave the lead to Raymond Benekowski. Raymond led the next five laps before being overtaken by Jeff Olschowka. Three laps later Benekowski's motor went up in a ball of smoke and he pulled to the infield. Richard Papenhausen moved into the second spot but three laps later his motor went up in huge eruption. He was done for the night. On lap 17 Dustin Massey was in third trying to pass Duane Cleveland for second. Massey bumped Cleveland from behind. Cleveland spun and stopped. Massey was given a black flag for rough driving. Olschowka held on to lead the final three laps to get the win. Benekowski and McDaniel were winners in heat race action.

Corey Hall was very impressive tonight winning the 20-lap street stock main event. An exciting 16-car field roared past Don Dunlaps green flag. Jake Vantol jumped out to the early lead. Vantol is the point leader and will have one more night to race until he can win the championship. That race will be on Sept 6th. His nearest competitor in the points is Bill Patterson. Bill had another rough night. He stopped two different times during the main event and because of that was disqualified. He finished in the 12th spot. Donnie Fortney ran in the second spot until lap nine when something happened and he could not continue on. On the tenth lap is when Hall passed Vantol for the lead. Chris Warner came charging from deep in the field to challenge Vantol for second. On lap 15 Warner passed Vantol. A later race restart saw Warner all over the bumper of Hall. However, Hall was able to muster enough speed to hold off Warner and get the win. It was an exciting race. Warner was second. Vantol finished in the third spot. Shawn Smith finished fourth while Terry Lawrence rounded out the top five. Warner and Hall were heat race winners.
