The fairest priced race of all; Civil War Series bound for Chico Fair

CHICO, CA (5-19-13) - When it comes to traditions at the annual Silver Dollar Fair, the sight of winged sprint cars before a colorful backdrop of carnival sights and sounds share the list of grand traditions along with cotton candy, funnel cakes and the Ferris Wheel. It's fair time at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds later this week and numerous motor sports will be headlined by the fire breathing sprint cars of the Civil War Sprint Car Series.

When it comes to high action thrills, the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Series will never let an avid open wheel race fan down and is sure to bring a first time spectator back to the track once they witness the spectacle. The latest version of California's premier series for 360 cubic inch powered winged sprint cars has already begun to produce a stellar chase for the coveted statewide championship title with new faces in victory lane and at the top of the point ladder while many former dominate drivers of the series are still seeking their first win of the year.

On Sunday night the open wheel racing heats up as the Civil War Sprint Car Series takes to Silver Dollar Speedway for its first visit of the year. The Memorial Day weekend race concludes two straight nights of Civil War Series action as the tour competes at Marysville Raceway Park on Saturday night for the Mel Hall Memorial.

As the Civil War Series enters this big weekend in the north end of the state, the championship point standings have a new face and a very familiar one already contending for the lead. Prunedale's Justin Sanders leads the series point standings. Sanders is currently nine points ahead of former series champions Sean Becker of Roseville and Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove. Becker is second in the ranks, nine points out of the lead. Decaires is third, 11-points out of the point lead.

Former series Rookie of the Year Mason Moore is fourth overall and tied for position with Benicia's Billy Aton and Sacramento's Billy Butler in the point standings. Brett Rollag of Rohnert Park is in the seventh slot in the standings over Colfax driver Colby Wiesz. Defending seven time Champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn is ninth over Sacramento's Herman Klein who rounds out the top ten.

Sunday's event will be well worth the price of admission as the Civil War Series brings nearly 40 of California's high speed rebels without a cause to the exciting banks of Silver Dollar Speedway for a bargain price. All of the weekend's racing action is free with admission to the Silver Dollar Fair. Adults are $8, Children 6-12 are $3 and under six are free. Seniors 65 and up are just $6.00.

The Civil War Series is managed by Handy Racing Promotions Inc. in cooperation with the participating tracks on the tour including Petaluma Speedway, Silver Dollar Speedway, Placerville Speedway, Kings Speedway, Antioch Speedway and Marysville Raceway Park.
