Speed and Luck Lands Andy Gregg in Victory Lane

Speed and Luck Lands Andy Gregg in Victory Lane

CHICO, CA (7-19-13) - It was the Andy vs. Andy show tonight at The Silver Dollar Speedway. The two would start on the front row together and put on a great show in front of a very excited crowd. "I had a really fast car tonight, but Andy had his elbows up and was hard to pass. We got a little luck from a lapped car and we were able to get it done. Just want to thank my fans and all my sponsors for the support." stated Andy Gregg in Victory Lane. It was Andy Gregg's first win in the Friday night 410 series at Silver Dollar this year. Other winners during Wells Fargo Points Race Number 13 include, Rowdy McClenon in the Perma-Zyme Wingless Sprint Cars, Brandon Powell in the Winged Economy Sprint Cars, Paradise's Kevin Ward in the Street Stocks, and Jesse Skidmore in the Hobby Stocks.

The 410 sprint cars put on a spectacular show tonight. With the two Andy's on the front row it would be Placerville's Andy Gregg getting the jump to the first turn on the high side in his Coors Light sponsored car. But coming out of turn 2 Gregg would hit a slick spot in the track and nearly spin out, allowing Forsberg to take the lead. Gregg, however, was not done. After gathering the car back he would retain the second position and begin to track down Forsberg. Lap after lap Andy Gregg was faster. Soon Gregg was back on Forsberg's bumper doing everything he could to get by. The Red flag would fly though on lap 6 as Jason York appeared to lose an engine than burst into flames on the front straightaway. The fire crews quickly doused the fire and York was able to get out unharmed. The yellow flag would fly once more as the 27 of Clint Wilson would spin in turn 3 on lap 8. Also under caution, fifth place driver Brad Bumgarner would come to a stop in turn two after making contact with another car that sent Bumgarner to the rear of the field with Wilson. Once the Green flag flew though Forsberg and Gregg took off. It looked as though Forsberg had a comfortable lead with five to go after leading the first twenty laps, when disaster would strike for Forsberg. Trying to put a car a lap down, Andy would go to the high side entering turn one when the lapped car slid up the track and made contact with Forsberg nearly sending him in a roll off of the track. Somehow though, he maintained control of the car and continued on in second place. But the damage had been done. Forsberg had a flat left rear tire and could not catch Andy Gregg who would drive on to his first 410 sprint car win at Silver Dollar Speedway in 2013. Forsberg would hang on to finish second, followed by Chico's Michael Tarter with another strong finish in third, fourth place went to the 2 car of BJ Martin out of Orland with a very strong run, and fifth place would go the points leader Sean Becker. Auburn's Andy Forsberg was fastest in Qualifying with a time of 13.151. Heat Race wins were picked up by Keith Bloom and Brad Bumgarner.

The Street Stocks put on a great show once again tonight. With a good car count of 14 cars they did not disappoint. Gary Newman and Fred Ryland led the field down to the green flag, with Ryland getting the jump and taking a commanding lead over the field. But trouble would ensue on lap 6 as Ryland would break something under the car and go up in smoke down the back straight drawing a caution and moving Richard Workman into the lead. Workman and Kevin Ward would do battle for the lead until lap 15 when the caution would fly again for a three car incident in turns three and four. Disaster would strike the leader of Richard Workman on the restart when his car would not turn going in to turn one. Something was obviously broke in the front end though as he would go to the pit area and not return. This would relinquish the lead to Kevin Ward out of Paradise. Ward would hold a sizeable lead over the rest of the field until Jake Vantol began to mount a charge. Vantol who has been nearly unbeatable this year had an off night as his car seemed to experience mechanical issues all night. After starting mid pack he made up no ground and actually fell back a couple of spots. But on about lap 12 his car came to life. He had moved up to the fifth spot and began to look like the Vantol we have come to expect on Friday nights. Vantol would move in to second place with 5 to go and was hounding Ward for the lead. But just could not get around him as Ward cruised to his first win of the year at Silver Dollar Speedway. Vantol would finish second, followed by Brent Lawrence in third, Mark Newman in fourth, and Gary Newman rounded out the top five. Heat Race wins was claimed by Richard Workman and Kevin Ward.

The Permazyme Wingless Sprint Car Series race was won by Rowdy McClenon after yet another dominating performance. The win marked win number four on the year for McClenon. Mclenon was followed across the line by Angelique Bell who had a strong run in the 5b car, third place went to Ron Laplant, fourth place was Dustin Thompson, and fifth went to Don Emery.

The Economy Sprint Car main event was won by Brandon Powell. Tonight's win marked Powell's first win at Silver Dollar Speedway. Brandon took the lead under caution on lap eleven when leader Kyle Bakkie would go to the pit area with unknown problems. Powells would win by a comfortable margin over, Ron Wyman in second, Kyle Standley in third, Jason Standley in fourth, and Scott Gannett would round out the top five.

Jesse Skidmore would take home his third win of the season in the Hobby Stocks tonight as he ran a solid main event. Second place went to Paradise's David Pierce, third was Kyle Allen, fourth went to points leader Brian Compton who had an off night, and Russell House would round out the top five.

The excitement returns to Silver Dollar Speedway next weekend with Wells Fargo Points Race #14 featuring a Non-Points 360 Sprint Car Open Show, Street Stocks, Dirt Modifieds, Perma-Zyme Wingless Sprint Cars, and The Limited Late Models. The Front Grandstand Gate is scheduled to open at 6pm with racing slated to start at 7pm. Ticket prices are $13 for Adults, $11 for Seniors and Juniors (12-15), and $6 for children 11 and under. So bring the family, and invite your friends as it is sure to be another action packed, fun-filled night at Silver Dollar Speedway.
