Gregg Holds Off Forsberg In Thriller

Gregg Holds Off Forsberg In Thriller

CHICO, CA (8-16-13) - Andy Gregg utilized an outside front row starting position to lead all 25 laps en route to winning his 2nd race this season at Silver Dollar Speedway. "We always appreciate all the fans coming out and I have to thank my whole Coors Light/Autism Awareness crew for all their hard work." stated Gregg during his victory lane interview with Troy Hennig. Other winners during Wells Fargo Points Race #16 included, Rick Koster in the Economy Sprints, Brian Compton in the Hobby Stocks, Ryan Mcdaniel in the Limited Late Models, and Mitch Machado in the Street Stocks.

Andy Forsberg claimed the Hotcoats Powdercoating Challenge Series title tonight by running in the second position. For Forsberg this was a really big deal as his chances for the Track Championship were nearly shot after a missed race early in the season. In Victory Lane Andy was very excited. Michael Tarter ended up second in the Hotcoats Points followed very closely by Track Points Leader Sean Becker in third place.

Three Champions were crowned tonight as the Economy Sprints, Hobby Stocks, and Limited Late Model divisions finished their year tonight. Kyle Standley won the Inaugural Economy Sprint Car Championship. Utilizing consistency to stay atop the standings, as he was able to claim the title without garnering a victory this year. Brian Compton had a dominant season in the Hobby Stock division claiming the inaugural Championship for the division. Compton won 4 main events on the year and will have many more to come in his career. Ryan McDaniel took the Limited Late Model Championship, in its second year. Last year it was his father Randy claiming the title but this year Ryan was nearly unbeatable as he only lost one main event all year.

The 410 Sprint Cars battled it out tonight on a slicked up race track that was exciting to watch. Andy Gregg got the jump on the start and would build up a rather large lead until he got in to lapped traffic and was slowed up by the 27 of Clint Wilson who put up a huge effort to keep from going a lap down. His bid to stay on the lead lap would come to an end on lap ten when Andy Gregg would slide past him in turn two than Andy Forsberg would slide into the side of Wilson sending him in a spin off of turn three, bringing out the caution. Andy Forsberg was able to stick with Gregg the entire race but just couldn't close in enough to make a move. Kenny Allen returned to Silver Dollar Speedway after a couple month hiatus and did not disappoint, coming home with a solid third place finish. Sean Becker was fun to watch as he sliced and diced his way up to a fourth place finish after starting the race in the thirteenth position. BJ Martin continued his string of strong runs by running fifth tonight. Martin ran in the third position a lot of the race but slipped back near the end. Michael Tarter Claimed his first career Tyler Wolf Fast Time Award by timing in at a scorching 12.115 seconds. Heat Race Victories were claimed by Chico's Kevin Sharrah, and Placerville's Andy Gregg.

Mitch Machado claimed an emotional victory in the Street Stock division. Tonight we said goodbye to Street Stock driver Kevin Ward who passed away last week. Kevin Ward was a major contributor to this division with his business Circle Track Racing Specialties. Machado dedicated the victory to Ward and his family and also gave his winning trophy to the family. Richard Workman led the first seven laps of the race before giving up the lead to Machado. Workman would hold on to finish second. Brent Lawrence crossed the line in third place, followed by Bill Hall and Mark Newman to round out the top five. Championship Points Leader Jake Vantol had an off night as he exited his heat race early and pulled to the infield in the main event early as well. Vantol has a nearly insurmountable points lead going in to the final event but anything can happen in the world of racing. Heat Races tonight were claimed by Brent Lawrence and Mitch Machado.

The Limited Late Model Main Event saw sparks flying and tempers flaring but in the end it was Ryan McDaniel winning the battle and the war. McDaniel led every lap of the main event en route to his Championship Clinching victory. The race ended under red flag on lap 17 when an incident on the front straightaway escalated into a heated exchange between three drivers. Once the dust settled and everyone was back in their cars the officials decided to call the race complete, thus giving the win to Ryan McDaniel. Second place went to 84 year old driver Larry Damitz, Jerry Bartlett had a strong run in third place. The top five would be rounded out by Matt Micheli and Phil Marino. Heat Race victories were claimed by Jerry Bartlett and Ryan McDaniel.

The Hobby Stock Main Event got off to a very rough start as multiple drivers sustained major damage in three failed attempts to get the race underway. After all was said and done though it was The Champion Brian Compton coming away with the victory over Eddie Hammett in second, David Pierce in third, and Kyle Allen would finish fourth as the final car to complete all twenty laps. Heat Race victories were claimed by Scott Longmire and Chris Barnett.

The Economy Sprints put on quite the battle. Brandon Powell who had won the last two races in a row battled Rick Koster for the lead back and forth the entire race. In the end though it was Rick Koster claiming his first career victory at Silver Dollar Speedway. Powell finished a strong second, followed by Scott Gannett in the third position, Ron Wyman recovered from an early race rollover to come across the line in fourth, and Shawna Overton rounded out the top five. The lone heat race was also claimed by Main Event winner Rick Koster.

Next Friday Night August 23rd, is the final points race of the 2013 season at Silver Dollar Speedway. We will crown Track Champions in the 410 Sprint Cars, Street Stocks, Perma-Zyme Wingless Sprints, Dirt Modifieds and Mini Stocks, and the action for the titles is sure to be fierce. We will also be remembering Fallen Champion Tyler Wolf on this night with the brand new Tyler Wolf Memorial Trophy. Spread the word, and bring a friend or two out to the races. The Front Grandstand Gate is scheduled to open at 6pm with racing slated to start at 7pm. Ticket prices are $13 for Adults, $11 for Seniors and Juniors (12-15), and $6 for children 11 and under. Remember this is the final points race of the year, as the year is winding to a close you wont want to miss out on all the action out at Silver Dollar Speedway!
