Fall Nationals End 2013 Race Season at Silver Dollar Speedway
CHICO, CA (9-18-13) -Â After a successful 60th Gold Cup Race of Champions, the speedway will now focus on closing out the season on a high note with the 21st Annual Fall Nationals. The popular two-day show that features three racing divisions will take place Friday night, September 27, and Saturday night, September 28. The mainstay of the Fall Nationals has always been the 360 winged sprint cars. Once again joining them will be wingless spec sprints and dirt modifieds. A handsome purse is offered for the two nights with over $40,000 on the line.
Front gate for the Friday and Saturday night race will open at 5 pm with racing slated to begin at 6:30 pm. Pit gate will open at 2 pm. Friday night general admission is $16.00 for adults with seniors and juniors are $13.00. Saturday night general admission for adults is $22.00, seniors and juniors are $16.00. On both nights children are just $6.00.
On Saturday night the fairgrounds will host an 8 pm Fireworks show. Fans will have the chance to watch fireworks while the races on the track are still going on. The Fireworks will take place in the North Parking lot and is part of the Silver Dollar RC track, who is hosting a National RC event. Due to the fireworks, the North end of the fairgrounds will not be accessible to our race fans and teams. The Costco entrance will be closed. Race teams will also be diverted through the fairgrounds and enter the pit area by the maintenance gate. Signs and staff will be directing traffic on Saturday.
The winged 360 sprint cars will be led by San Jose masher Tim Kaeding. The former two-time Silver Dollar Speedway champion has won nine World of Outlaw main events this season. This past Saturday, Kaeding won the King of West sprint car main event at Fernley, NV. Rutherford, CA fan favorite Rico Abreu will once again be behind the wheel of his Paul Silva wrenched #24. Chico's Jonathan Allard is looking to complete a little history this season. Allard already have five wins at Chico in 2013, however, with one more win he will pass two legends of the Silver Dollar Speedway on the all-time wins list. Allard is currently tied with Shane Scott and Wayne Sue with 49 wins. As of now, other entries will include current Silver Dollar Speedway track champion Sean Becker, Auburn's Andy Forsberg, Sacramento's Willie Croft and Placerville's Andy Gregg. More than 40 sprint cars are expected for both nights of racing.
The dirt modified surge will be led by this year's champion Duane Cleveland and former champions Ryan McDaniel and Mark Abouzeid. Add Richard Papenhausen and Oreste Gonella to the mix and the weekend is already shaping up to be a great one. A large car count is expected because of the Saturday night Nor-Cal Challenge IMCA Modified Series. Ryan McDaniel leads the series with 196 points. Oakley's Kellen Chadwick is 20-points back of McDaniel. Martinez driver Nick DeCarlo is 12-points back of Chadwick. Santa Rosa's Freddie Plourde is fourth and Livemore's Brian Cass is fifth. The seven race traveling series started at Chico on March 9th and will end with the Saturday night show, September 28th.
Two-time Silver Dollar Speedway track champion Rowdy McClenon leads the wingless spec sprint division into Chico for the final two races of the year. Santa Rosa's Terry Schank Jr., Rio Linda's Scott Hall and Oroville's Ron LaPlant are three drivers who could park their rigs in victory lane. Local's Dustin Thompson, Taylor Nelson and Don Emery could pull an upset and end up on the front stretch. Other top drivers expected with a guaranteed $800 to win each night with the possibility of $1,000 if 20 wingless cars show up.
