Farewell to a KING
CHICO, CA (8-27-14) -Â We all knew this day was coming but most of us selfishly denied that it would ever happen. The greatest sprint car driver of all-time, a man with 20 World of Outlaw Championships, 578 "A" main event wins with the World of Outlaws and the winningest driver in Gold Cup history, Bloomington, Indiana's Steve Kinser will make his final Gold Cup start at Silver Dollar Speedway this September 5th and 6th. Kinser, known as The King, is retiring from the full-time grueling World of Outlaw schedule in 2015.
This year the World of Outlaws has dubbed this season a Salute to the King. On Saturday night of Gold Cup, we will honor Kinser in front of the grandstand crowd and present him with some gifts. This year we have also amassed Steve Kinser memorabilia that will be displayed in a museum on the fairgrounds. We have dedicate an entire souvenir program in honor of what Kinser has meant to Gold Cup over the years. The souvenir program will be sold at the Gold Cup and will be a must have for a cherished keepsake. Kinser is scheduled to sign autographs on Saturday at the Kinser museum.
Kinser will go down as the King of the Gold Cup. His record of 12 Gold Cup Championships will never be broken. To put his remarkable triumph during Gold Cup's into some perspective, the next winningest Gold Cup driver is Wooster, Ohio's Jac Haudenschild. The Wild Child has three Saturday night Gold Cup wins. Even more impressive is the span that Kinser has covered. He has won the Gold Cup in for different decades, starting with his win in 1978. His last Gold Cup win was in 2005. Finally, when you add up all miscellaneous main event wins at Chico during his limited amount of racing at the speedway, he has won 24 Silver Dollar Speedway feature events, placing him ninth on the all-time win list.
The 61st Gold Cup Race of Champions is in dedication of the King Steve Kinser. We are proud to invite all of his loyal fan base to his final run at Gold Cup history. To reserve your seat for his final two races at Chico please call the office at 530-350-7275. Limited seating is available at this time. Camping is also limited and a spit can be reserved by calling the same phone number.
