Tim Kaeding Returns to Silver Dollar Speedway

CHICO, CA (3-1-15) - The iconic and world-wide known Silver Dollar Speedway is set to kick off the 2015 season on March 6th and 7th with the annual running of the Silver Cup Race of Champions. The mile clay oval race track will host the winged 360 sprint cars, dirt modifieds, and wingless sprint cars.

The racing action gets underway Friday March 6th, with qualifying at 6 PM and racing starting at 7 PM. Tickets Adults $16, seniors and juniors $13, Children $6. Night two of the Silver Cup hits the speedway March 7th with qualifying at 6 PM and racing starting at 7 PM. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for juniors and seniors and $6 for children.

With 56 career sprint car wins at Silver Dollar Speedway, San Jose driver Tim Kaeding is etched in stone as one of the all-time greats to ever race in Chico. However, Kaeding has only raced a few times at Silver Dollar Speedway over the last three years. In fact, Kaeding's last win at Chico was August 18, 2012. There is no doubt Kaeding is eager to get back into victory lane. This weekend he will be paired with crew chief extraordinaire Rod Tiner. Kaeding and Tiner have a long history of working together and will be a tough combination to beat.

Justin Sanders picked up the first win of the year at Marysville Raceway this past Saturday night. Sander's is the only driver eligible to win the $10,000 bonus offered by promoter Dennis Gage. If Sanders can win the next five races in a row he will get the big pay check. Sander's is registered to run both nights.

Sean Becker won the opening night race of Silver Cup last year and closed out the year by winning the final night of the year during the Fall Nationals. Becker will be back in the familiar Menne Motorsports #75. Becker has 51 career main event wins at Chico.

Andy Forsberg has 40 career main event wins throughout his career at Chico. Forsberg has teamed up with C & M Motorsports for 2015 and hopes to rebound from a sluggish last few seasons at Chico. Mason Moore will be a factor each night during the Silver Cup. Other top drivers expected to attend are Steven Tiner, Dominic Scelzi, Shane Golobic and many more.

The dirt modifieds and wingless sprints will once again compete for the win alongside the winged sprint cars. Last year the dirt modified portion of the competition saw 46 drivers competing over the two nights. Nick DeCarlo became the second driver Friday night to clean sweep after timing in fastest with a lap of 15.501 and claiming the victory in heat race number one. The night also saw Duane Cleveland, Jeff Olschowka, and Jay Sears win their heat race; with Richard Papenhausen wining the B main. The main event top five was rounded out by Duane Cleaveland, Jake Vantol, Kyle Casson, and Albert Gill. Saturday night Nick Decarlo set fast time for the second night in a row with a lap of 15.806. Ryan McDaniel, Randy McDaniel, Kellen Chadwick, and Troy Folger claimed the heat race wins. After winning his heat race Kellen Chadwick would go on to claim the win and the dirt modified silver cup championship.

Sixteen wingless sprint cars showed up to compete between Friday and Saturday night. Friday night saw Angelique Bell set the mark in qualifying with a lap of 14.621. Rowdy McClenon claimed the loan heat race win before finishing second to Scott Hall in the main event. Shane Myhre, Dustin Thompson, and Don Emery rounded out the top five in the opening night of competition. Saturday night saw Tommy Laliberte complete the fastest lap around the mile in qualifying with a lap of 14.990. Tommy Laliberte and Scott Hall claimed heat race wins. Tommy Laliberte would complete the third clean sweep of the weekend winning Saturday's main event and being crowned the silver cup wingless champion.
