Macedo Triumphs in Chico

CHICO, CA (8-21-15) - Carson Macedo stepped into the famed Clyde and Marion Lamar #3c Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway and looked like he had been racing with the team for years. In his first night with the Tri-C Motorsports team Macedo rocketed to an impressive win during the 25-lap sprint car main event. Macedo was subbing for Jonathan Allard who was still in New Zealand. Allard is expected to return this weekend back at the helm of the #3c.

Macedo dominated the 410 winged sprint car main event to claim his second career victory at Silver Dollar Speedway. For Macedo, it marked his third consecutive sprint car win on the West Coast. Macedo jumped out to the lead on the opening lap and never looked back while lapping up to fifth place. Macedo was also turning laps in the mid 11 seconds during this stretch of the race. Jason Statler looked solid tonight. He didnt have enough for Macedo but held off Andy Forsberg for second. Forsberg thrilled the crowd during the first half of the race as he had a classic battle with Chase Majdic for third. Sean Becker finished fourth and Keith Bloom rounded out the top five. Willie Croft set fast time with a lap of 11.712. Macedo and Mason Moore each won their respected heat races. With the win Macedo was able to keep the Lamar #3c team ahead of the Menne Motorsports #75 in the car own championship. In the first heat race both Kody Smith and Croft suffered frightening flips. Smith lost his right rear tire and flipped wildly in turns one and two. Croft flipped in turn four and ended up hanging off the catch fence. Both drivers were uninjured; however, both cars were not reparable and had to scratch for the night.

The fans were treated to watching Wyatt Brown win his first career 20 lap economy sprint car feature event. Brown, who also won the tracks prestigious rookie of the year honors, held off Brandon Powell, this seasons driving champion. Brown did an amazing job down the stretch to hold of Powell. It was a great way to end the season on a positive note. Powell finished second in the race but still ended the season on a high note. Powell won five of the eight point races this season at Chico in route to the track championship. Ron Wyman had a solid season and finished third in the race. Third spot was good enough for Wyman to secure second in points, just one point over Brown. Scott Gannett won the eight lap heat race but had to start at the rear of the eight-car starting main event field. Gannett worked his way up to a fourth place finish. Doug Emery came home in the fifth position.

Todd Cooper enjoyed himself tonight. Cooper won the second eight lap heat race of the night. Cooper then went on to lead all 20 laps of the final hobby stock main event of the season. He was surrounded by a ton of family and friends in victory lane. Once Sacramento driver Brian Cooper completed the first lap of the main event he was going to win the track driving championship. Cooper started eighth and to his credit even though he wrapped up the title he never lost sight of trying to win the main event. Compton raced his way up to second and almost passed Cooper on the final lap. It made for an exciting ending. Compton won the track championship in 2013 also. Kyle Allen enjoyed a solid night. He finished second in the first heat race and third in the main event. Shannon Collins took home a fourth place finish in the main event and ended up third in the points. David Pierce finished fifth. Pierce finished second in the drivers championship side of things and should be commended for his great effort all season.

The mighty BCRA midgets entertained the crowd with a fantastic 30 lap feature event. Calistogas Britton Bock led the majority of the main event but a late race restart proved to be his undoing. Frankie Guerrini III took advantage of the late race caution and was able to pass Bock with two laps remaining. Seventh place starting Brian Gard was also able to pass Bock and finished second. Bock did finish in the third spot. Michael Faccinto ended up in the fourth spot. The hard charger of the night was David Prickett. The Fresno driver started 16th and finished fifth. Early in the event the red was needed for a scary flip involving Taylor Simas. While Simas was known as a high flyer on the basketball court, he didnt want to replicate that on the race track. Simas started flipping at the start/finish line and came to a stop way outside the embankment in turn one. Simas was shaken and transported to Enloe Hospital but was later released and was at home resting on Saturday.
