Championships on the Line During Pepsi Night at Chico

CHICO, CA (8-24-15) - This Friday night, August 28th, the Silver Dollar Speedway will crown three more champions. Marysvilles Ryan McDaniel looks to win his fourth IMCA dirt modified driving championship at Silver Dollar Speedway but first since 2006. Recently, on August 14th, McDaniel claimed his third consecutive limited late model driving championship at Chico. However, three-time dirt modified champion and winner of the last two in a row, Yuba Citys Duane Cleveland, is just five points back of McDaniel. Each driver has multiple wins this year. McDaniel has three while Cleveland has two. Randy McDaniel is the only other driver to win a dirt modified point race this season. This championship may not be decided until the final lap of the main event. Chicos Mark Abouzeid sits in the third spot. Abouzeid has been fast all season but just not able to secure a win. Nick Vidovich is the fourth driver to compete at all six events this season and holds down the fourth spot in points. Ryan picked up the Pepsi Night win last year and will try to bring the 6ft. trophy back home with him this Friday night.

The street stock championship is also going to come down to the final lap of the season. Olivehursts Eddie Hammett leads Chicos Clinton Earl by just two championship points. Earl has two wins this season. Hammett has been held out of victory lane but has been the more consistent of the two championship contenders. Neither of these drivers has won a drivers championship at Silver Dollar Speedway. Gary Newman of Cottonwood holds down the third spot; however, fellow Cottonwood resident Richard Workman is just five points back in fourth. Defending champion Chris Warner of Marysville sits in the fifth spot. Warner won the Pepsi Night 6ft. tall trophy from last season and will try to win it for the second year in a row.

Santa Rosa driver Terry Schank Jr. looks to wrap up his third wingless sprint championship this Friday night. Schank Jr. won his previous two championships back in 2010 and 2011. Of the five point races completed this season, Schank Jr. has won four of the main events. The driver chasing Schank Jr. is Tony Richards of Orland. Richards is the only other driver to win a main event this year. Richards is nine points back. Palo Cedro driver Casey McClain sits in the third spot and has a comfortable 15 point edge over Cornings Nathan Johnson who sits in fourth. Rounding out the top five in points is Chicos Rick Swigart. Schank Jr. won the Pepsi Night trophy last season and should be considered the favorite heading into this Friday night.

The pit gate for the competitors will open at 4 PM. The front gate for the fans will open at 6 PM. Racing is slated to start at 7 PM. Adult general admission is $13.00, juniors and seniors are $11.00. Children ages 6 11 are $6.00. Kids five and under will be admitted free with a paying adult.
