Cory Eliason Finds Redemption at Silver Dollar Fair Race

Cory Eliason Finds Redemption at Silver Dollar Fair Race

CHICO, CA (5-29-16) - After seeing the Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster's winningest driver capitalize on his bad luck on Saturday night, Cory Eliason found redemption on Sunday night at the Silver Dollar Fair Race as he would keep Andy Forsberg at bay and record his first ever Civil War feature event victory.

Just as he did on Saturday night, Eliason would again find himself on the pole for the feature event on Sunday night on an extremely slick Silver Dollar Speedway leading the field to green alongside Andy Gregg.

When the green flag dropped, Eliason continued to flex his muscle as he did much of the weekend as he jumped out to the early lead with Gregg, Jonathan Allard, and Forsberg jockeying for position behind him.

An early stop in the action would set up the race's first double file restart, and Eliason would continue to show the way as he pounded on the thick cushion that was build up on the both ends of the speedway.

Getting into lapped traffic, Andy Forsberg and Jonathan Allard would close in on the race leader, but contact with a slower car would see Allard get off the Speedway and fall back to fifth as Gregg took the third spot over before another stoppage on the 12th lap.

As the race got back to green, it would be short lived as a multi car pile up in turn four would ultimately force officials to throw the red as the track was blocked with cars and debris.

With rubber imminent during this stoppage, remaining restarts on this night would go single file to keep the playing field even for the entire field. With the action back underway, rubber would start to go down on the speedway and Eliason would feel heavy pressure from Forsberg, but continued to lead the way.

As the laps clicked off the field would soon be in single formation as Eliason led Forsberg, Mason Moore, Steven Tiner, and Jonathan Allard. Despite a late race caution with 10-to-go, Eliason would take care of business and put his bad luck during the seasons first two events behind him as he claimed his first ever Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster feature event win aboard the Van Dyke Motorsports No. 5h.

"It feels so good to finally get this Harley Van Dyke car into victory lane," a jubilant Cory Eliason said in victory lane. "We have been really fast each night out this year, and to have bad luck on Saturday night while leading was tough. We kept at it and the guys gave me a really good car and we were able to finish it off."

Forsberg would extend his early series point lead as he held on to finish in the second spot. "I was just biding my time waiting for Eliason to get another right-rear flat," Forsberg jokingly said during his post race interview. "In reality, we had a good car, but he was really good out front and found the rubber early. I tried to get him when you could still move around, but we came up short but had another successful night with our C&M Motorsports team."

Rounding out the Top-Three was Princeton, CA driver Mason Moore. "This F&F Racing team has been really good all year, and it is always nice to be on the podium with Civil War Series," Moore said. "I thought the track was racy early in the feature and you could move around and then the rubber came in. Huge thanks to my team for all they do for me."

Steven Tiner would finish in the fourth spot and Jonathan Allard would round out the Top-Five. Finishing sixth on back would be DJ Netto, Shane Golobic, Geoff Ensign, Chase Majdic, and Matt Person rounding out the Top-10.

A total of 51 Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster sprint cars checked into the pit area on Sunday night and officials would opt to do two separate qualifying flights with Steven Tiner and Mason Moore each earning quick time honors.

A four heat-race program would see Tiner, Allard, Golobic, and Eliason each pick up wins with Eliason winning the Dash and earning the pole for the 30-lap A Main.

Twin C Mains were in place on Sunday night with Kyler Shaw, and Bobby Butler each picking up wins and advancing to the night's B Main event.

An exciting semi saw Sean Becker pick up the win over Justin Sanders, Geoff Ensign, Tony Gualda, Ryan Robinson, and John Michael Bunch as each of those six drivers would earn spots into the feature event.
