Andy Forsberg Wins 29th Career Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster Feature Event

CHICO, CA (3-31-17) - For the first time since 2009, the Forsberg Racing No. 92 rolled into Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster victory lane. After an exciting battle with Shane Golobic and Justin Sanders, Andy Forsberg would emerge the victor for the first time in 2017 and for the 29th time in his career with the series.

"I love driving for other people, but it is pretty cool to be up here in victory lane with the family car," an emotional Andy Forsberg said. "This is my first win since losing by buddy Bill Brock Jones, and it is very cliche, but I am dedicating this one to him."

Starting on the front row alongside Justin Sanders, Forsberg would get out to the early lead as fifth starting Shane Golobic powered into the second spot and Sanders ran in the third position.

A yellow flag on the second lap would quickly halt the action, but the action would soon settle into a nice extended green flag front. Piloting his family owned No. 92 sprinter, Forsberg would leave the field in his wake as he made things happen using the top of the track.

Behind the leader, things picked up as Golobic, Sanders, and Sean Becker battled for second third and fourth just ahead of Gio Scelzi and Geoff Ensign who were putting on their own battle for a spot in the Top-Five.

On the 1/4 mile bullring traffic would come into play extremely fast on this night, and Forsberg would see his lead shrink up as Golobic and Sanders soon found themselves on his rear bumper.

As the battle for the lead picked up, the yellow flag would fly on the 14th lap and give the leaders a little breathing room.

Back underway, Forsberg was still extremely fast up front, but that speed would bring lapped traffic into play in just a few laps, and the excitement would build in the grandstands. Closing in on a slower car on the 22nd lap, Forsberg would nearly spin his car out, and would force Golobic to check up as Sanders rocketed around him for the second spot.

Sanders' North County Plastering backed No. 121 entry came alive in the race's closing laps and for the second race in a row he came flying after the race leader.

On the 28th lap, Sanders had a huge run on Forsberg, and as the duo came up on a slower car, contact would be made between the trio and it would result in the race's final yellow flag flying.

While the two leaders were able to stay under power, Sanders' bid for the win would come to an end with a flat tire from the contact.

Now with opening night winner, Shane Golobic, on his tail, Forsberg would take advantage of the clear track as he capped off his great night by rolling into victory lane for the 29th time in his career with the series.

Shane Golobic would finish second and Sean Becker would take the final spot on the podium, subsequently making it the same trio of drivers who made up the podium during the season opener.

"We were able to get up into second right away and run with Andy Forsberg all night," Shane Golobic said. "We had some close calls in traffic, but it was fun racing with him, and hats off to those guys on grabbing the win."

Third place finisher, Sean Becker, was also pleased with how his night ended up.

"We got off to a slow start, and barely made the invert, but were able to get in the Dash, and give us a good starting spot in the feature," Becker noted. "Once the track slicked off we were really good, and came alive in the feature. To be back on the podium with Forsberg and Golobic is nothing to hang our heads about, and we will come back and try again."

Gio Scelzi would cap off his debut at the Silver Dollar Speedway with a fourth place finish, while Sebastopol, CA driver, would advance from ninth to round out the Top-Five.

Chase Majdic finished sixth, Colton Slack seventh, Michael Kofoid came home eight, Brad Bumgarner finished ninth, and Michael Ing rounded out the Top-10.

A total of 26 Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster cars checked into the pit area on Friday night, and it was Andy Forsberg setting the standard in time trials.

Heat race wins went to Scelzi, Scott Parker, and Sean Becker, while Forsberg won the Dash.

Tyler Seavey won the B Main and transferred into the feature event along with Jarrett Soares, Daniel Becker, Michael Ing, Koen Shaw, Tanner Carrick, and Jeremy Wilson.
