Forty-Eight and Counting for No. 92

CHICO, CA (7-4-17) - Auburn's Andy Forsberg led all 25-laps to win his 48th career main event at Silver Dollar Speedway on Tuesday night. The win came in front of a packed house who were on hand to also witness the post racing fireworks. "I have won a lot of races but not many on July 4th, so this is special to me and my crew," said Forsberg in victory lane. Earlier in the night, Forsberg picked up his 42nd career fast time award and received the extra $100 from Chuck Wolf in memory of Tyler Wolf. Forsberg started on the front row and beat fellow front row starter, Mason Moore, into turn one. With a light car count, the race only had one yellow on lap 19 when the No. 19 of Chase Majdic came to a stop. Moore had one last opportunity to try and pass Forsberg on the double file restart but Forsberg nailed the restart and went on to lead the final six laps with ease. Moore was second. Michael Ing brought the No. 21 home third. Brad Bumgarner came home in fourth. Oregon's Brian Boswell had a solid run and finished fifth. Colby Wiesz, Majdic and Justyn Cox completed the running order.

Phillip Shelby dominated the 20-lap IMCA Sport Mod main event. Shelby had a big-time lead when the checkered flag waived. It was his fourth win of the season at Chico. Two other drivers who are making a name for themselves are Tyler Rodgers and Shane Devolder. These two youngsters where great all night and even though Shelby was up front by himself, Rodgers and Devolder put on a great battle for second. In the end, it was Rodgers holding off Devolder barely at the finish line. Chico's Mark Abouzeid ran in the fourth spot while Jeremy Phillips finished fifth.

The crowd was really treated to a spectacular hobby stock event. The race featured numerous leaders and a 20-lap battle that wasn't decided until the final lap. Nick Vidovich passed Matt Magenheimer with just two laps remaining and narrowly went on to win the feature. The crowd jumped up to their feet and rooted on the top two racers during the final lap. The racing was fast and furious all throughout the event. At one point James West was up near the front, then contact between him and another driver sent him through the infield. Somehow West managed to hold on and continue. Kyle Allen started deep in the field and finished fourth. Brad Ray is a great driver and tonight he came home in third. Kyle Cheney rounded out the top five. A nice total of 12 Earl's Plumbing Hobby Stocks entered tonight's race.

The street stock main event was also a good one. Corey Hall started off as the leader but Phil Marino was charging towards the front. Marino, who started fifth, grabbed the lead only to have to give it up on lap six when he had a flat tire. Hall took advantage of Marino's misfortune and regained the lead. Marino restarted at the rear of the field and in 14 laps worked his way back to a third-place finish. Fritz Zanker drove one of his better races and finished second. Zanker did a respectable job in holding off Marino. Neither Zanker or Marino had anything for Hall, who finished almost a full straight ahead of second and third. Fourth went to Gary Newman and fifth Richard Workman. Unfortunately, drivers who finished six on back had problems and they included Manny Avila, Leif Berglund, Kevin Lesch and Danny Dozier.
