Andy Forsberg Scores 49th Career Win at Chico

Chico, CA (March 9, 2018) …. Auburn’s Andy Forsberg took the lead on lap 10 and went on to notch his 49th career sprint car win at Silver Dollar Speedway. With the win, Forsberg is now tied with Shane Scott and Wayne Sue for 5th all-time at Chico. “It is pretty cool to be mentioned with those great drivers, said Forsberg. “It also feels good to be reunited with the x1 guys and get them back in victory lane. Forsberg was referring to being back behind the wheel of the Friends and Family Racing No. x1, a place he vacated following the 2014 season.
Jake Haulot should be commended. He led the first 10 laps and looked good for most of the 25-lap event. Haulot ultimately fell to a third-place finish when 7th place starting Colby Copeland passed him on lap 23. Copeland was smooth and raced smart all night. It was a nice finish for the newly formed No. 16a team. Michael Ing brought the family No. 21 home in the fourth spot. D.J. Freitas had a solid night and finished fifth.
The main event was a rough and tumble first few laps. Numerous cautions and a few red flags slowed the event dramatically. Roll over victims included Mason Moore and Justyn Cox. Majority of the accidents can be blamed on the soft race track conditions brought on by the recent wet weather.
John Clark started dead last, 16th spot, and was credited with a sixth-place finish. Female racer Jodie Robinson came home in the seventh spot. For Robinson it was her career sprint car start at Chico. Fellow female racer Chelsea Blevins brought her family owned car to a tenth-place finish.
The wingless sprint cars didn’t have a big car count but the five drivers that attended the opening night race put on a good show. Angelique Bell, the 2016 track champion, led the first 13 laps of the race. Going into turn three, her car bicycled and almost flipped. Even though she was able to keep the car running she had given up the lead to Shawn Jones. Jones would go on to win the race. Troy Degaton finished in the second spot. Bell rebounded to finish in the third spot. Nick Larson was fourth. Terry Schank Jr. was involved in a accident on lap 12 and did not finish.
The Dwarf Car main event was one for the ages. The 20-lap feature event had numerous twists and turns. Danny Wagner led the first 16 circuits until a mechanical failure ended his night. This gave the lead to Jeremy Blackshere. Jeremy led the field back to a restart with two laps remaining. Ryan Winter had worked his way into the second spot. The final lap was epic as Blackshere crossed the line as the leader. Yet, going down the back-stretch Winter pulled even with Blackshere and the two raced into turn three. Winter was able to pass Blackshere and steal the win on the last lap. It was as an exciting finish and the crowd loved it. Blackshere finished second. Anthony Pope started 12th and raced his way up to a third-place finish. Mike Reeder came home in the fourth spot. Mike Grenert rounded out the top five. While the finish was amazing, the entire Dwarf Car main event was solid and featured a lot of passing and close racing.
Daniel Weger won the 12-lap B main event.
Justin Sanders started the night off by turning the fastest lap in qualifying. His best lap was a 11.593.
