Auto Racing and Helicopters This Friday Night

Chico, CA (June 26, 2018) …. Championship auto racing returns this Friday night, June 29th, with four divisions scheduled led by the IMCA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, Wingless Sprints and the Winged 360 Sprints. This Friday night is presented by Heather Cooper Homes / Realty.
On June 29th we are also very excited to host the popular and highly entertaining Butte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue “Fill the Backpack fundraiser. This team of volunteer’s will showcase their many services they provide to the community. There will be static displays of equipment and a live special demonstration in front of the main grandstand crowd to show what is involved in a rescue reenactment.
This year we have added a slight twist to the demonstration. As of now, current Silver Dollar Speedway sprint car point leader and three-time champion, Andy Forsberg, will be rescued by helicopter from the start/finish line flag stand.
Pit gate will open at 4 PM for the competitors. Grandstand gate opens at 6 PM each night. Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM. Adult admission on Friday night is $14.00, juniors and seniors $12.00, children $6.00 (ages 6-11) and kids 5 and under are free.
College students with proper identification can get in for $6.00 during all weekly point races.
Speaking of Forsberg, he has a 21-point edge over Sacramento’s Kalib Henry. Sitting 32-points back in third is Mason Moore of Princeton. Kenny Allen of Chico and Chelsea Blevins of Susanville round out the top five. Blevins, 17-years-old, is the top rookie winged sprint car driver this season and was just featured on KHSL Channel 12 locally.
The IMCA Sport Modified weekly show is heating up. Grass Valley’s Andrew Peckham leads Yuba City’s Brian Cooper by just four-points. Each driver has secured two main event wins in 2018 at Chico. Damian Merritt sits third and is only three-points ahead of Tyler Rodgers. Sprint car champions Mike Ficklin rounds out the top five.
Corey Hall is dominating the Street Stock championship. Hall holds a thirty-seven-point lead over Gary Newman for the top spot. While the battle for the lead is a hefty sum, the chase for second on back is tight. Newman has a three-point edge over Richard Workman and eleven-points over Leif Berglund.
Orland’s Tony Richards sits atop the wingless spec sprint standings. He is 10-points ahead of Brett Youngman of Grass Valley. Ron LaPlant, of Oroville, is 46-points behind Richards in the third spot. Richards leads the field with two main event wins. LaPlant and Casey McClain each has one win.
