FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chico, CA (March 26, 2018) …. The 2018 championship point season gets underway this Friday night, March 30th, at the historic Silver Dollar Speedway. Four divisions are scheduled to compete led by the popular winged sprint cars, sport mods, street stocks and hobby stocks.
Not only should the first point race of the season be well attended by cars and fans alike, the speedway will host their annual Easter Egg Hunt for the kids during one of the night’s intermission. The traditional egg hunt will have different designated areas with similar age groups to allow the youngest kids to still have a fair shot at getting a lot of eggs. It is also reported that the Easter Bunny will be making an appearance. This Friday night should be a nice chance to take the family to the races and let the youngsters get a chance to collect some cool eggs.
Pit gate will open at 4 PM for the competitors. Grandstand gate opens at 6 PM each night. Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM. Adult admission on Friday night is $14.00, juniors and seniors $12.00, children $6.00 (ages 6-11) and kids 5 and under are free.
College students with proper identification can get in for $6.00 during all weekly point races.
St. Helena’s Rico Abreu is scheduled to make a rare Silver Dollar Speedway appearance this Friday night. The 2016 Gold Cup Champion, two-time Chili Bowl Midget winner and 2014 USAC National Midget Champion will pilot his familiar No. 24. Nearly six years ago on April 27, 2012, Abreu won his first career winged sprint car race here at Silver Dollar Speedway.
Joining Abreu will be an overabundance of championship drivers led by the 2016 USAC National Midget Champion Tanner Thorson of Minden, NV. This season Thorson was picked to drive the famous Lamar No. 3c. Three-time and defending track champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn is undefeated at Chico in 2018. Forsberg picked up wins during both nights of the Silver Cup two weeks prior. Princeton driver Mason Moore, the 2016 Placerville track champ, will be aboard the familiar family owned No. 22. Locally, Chico’s Michel Ing is ready to win a championship this season and is once again at the helm of the No. 21. A full field of winged sprint cars are expected this Friday night.
From social media information, the Sport Mods, Street Stocks and Hobby Stocks seem to have a ton of interest this season. This Friday will mark the first appearance of each division at Chico. It will be interesting to see who shows up and which drivers will be championship contenders.
