David Tarter Memorial on Tap This Friday

Chico, CA (June 12, 2018) …. It is hard to believe that this Friday night is the 6th Annual David Tarter Memorial. It seems like yesterday that Tarter was walking the pit area with his big smile and affectionate personality saying hi to his extended racing family. You could tell he was just happy to be racing sprint cars at his hometown track against all his buddies. He was the true definition of a weekend warrior, someone who scratched and clawed his way to make enough money to race on Friday nights and then must do it all over again the following week. For his efforts, he was awarded the Rookie of the Year at the Silver Dollar Speedway.
Then tragedy struck on June 8th, 2012. Tarter was killed in a freak pit accident that sent shock waves through our entire racing community. In his honor, the family and the speedway decided two things. Starting in 2012, the Silver Dollar Speedway sprint car rookie of the year would forever be known as the David Tarter Rookie of the Year recipient and starting in 2013, a memorial race would be held right around the date of his passing to honor him.
This Friday night, June 15th, it is our honor to host the 6th Annual David Tarter Memorial. In addition to this race and because of Father’s Day on Sunday, all dad’s will be admitted into the main grandstands for just nine dollars.
Pit gate will open at 4 PM for the competitors. Grandstand gate opens at 6 PM each night. Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM. Adult admission on Friday night is $14.00, juniors and seniors $12.00, children $6.00 (ages 6-11) and kids 5 and under are free. Once again, all dads are just $9 at the front gate.
College students with proper identification can get in for $6.00 during all weekly point races.
David was a sprint car fanatic and because of this extra money will be on the line this Friday for the winged 360 sprint cars. The main event winner will win a minimum of $2,500 with a possibility of more depending on what the Tarter family receives this week. The race length will be 35-laps in honor of David’s racing number.
Kyle Larson Racing is donating $500 to the fastest qualifier.
All four sprint car heat races will be sponsored by Autism Awareness, Jimmy Wall “8 Pill, Creative Finishes Plus and Cycleland Speedway. Each heat race winner will receive $100, second place $60 and third $40.
The first two non-transfers in the B main event will receive $100 each courtesy of Conde Farms.
Ing Excavation and Menne Motorsports is sponsoring the Hard Charger award in the A main. This award goes to the driver who originally starts the farthest back and advances the most finishing positions.
Three-time Tarter winner Kyle Hirst of Paradise leads the charge into this Friday night. Hirst will have to fend off Auburn’s Andy Forsberg and Roseville’s Sean Becker. Becker won the original Tarter Memorial in 2013. Hirst wins have come in 2014, 2016 and 2017. Craig Stidham won the event in 2015. Forsberg won this past Friday night and now has four wins at Chico this season and is the current point leader.
Nearly 30 sprint cars should be on hand to not only pay tribute to one of their own but race for the extra money.
The IMCA Sport Mods, wingless sprints and street stocks are also scheduled to appear.
