Tanner Thorson Wins Race in Honor of Tyler Wolf

Chico, CA (Aug 17, 2018) …. Tanner Thorson had a wild 24 hours. On Thursday, Thorson raced to a 14th place finish racing in the Nascar Camping World Truck Series at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee. Thorson then flew back to California and made it Chico to race at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night. The effort paid off as Thorson led the final 14 laps to win the 6th Annual Tyler Wolf Memorial.
It was nice to the winged 410 sprint cars back at Chico. The race attracted 16 different competitors. Andy Forsberg turned the fastest lap in qualifying and earned $500 from Kyle Larson Racing. Forsberg’s lap time was 11.501. Michael Ing won the first heat race. Sean Becker grabbed the win in heat two. The heat race wins were important, as those two drivers joined four others in the six car, six-lap dash. Kyle Hirst would go on to win the dash and earn the right to start from the pole position of the upcoming 25-lap main event.
Hirst grabbed the lead on the opening circuit of the main event. Forsberg held down the second spot on lap one, but the following two laps, he battled with Tanner Thorson. On lap four Thorson got the better of Forsberg for the second spot. Hirst soon had to maneuver in and out of slower cars. This allowed Thorson to chance to close in. On lap 11, Thorson drove to the bottom entering turn three. Hirst ran the top side. As Thorson began to drift up the track, Hirst jumped over the cushion and spun. As Hirst came back onto the track he collected third place Forsberg. Both cars were damaged and did not continue. This moved Sean Becker into second. Bud Kaeding had also charged towards the front and ran third. This is the way the top three would finish. Colby Copeland ran fourth. Ing rounded out the top five. Richard Brace Jr. earned the $400 Hard Charger Award. Brace started 15th and finished 8th.
For the second year in a row Orland’s Tony Richards has won the wingless spec sprint championship. Tonight, Richards would finish third, but it was good enough for the title. Casey McClain did an outstanding job in winning the race. It was his second win this year at Chico. McClain held off veteran Terry Schank Jr. It has been good to see Schank Jr. back at the track after earlier season motor issues sidelined the famed Joe Hunt Magnetos No. 1. Brett Youngman finished fourth in the main but second in the points standings. It was a good solid season for Youngman. Bruno Bianchi came home in the fifth spot.
Corey Hall was just in a different league tonight during the 20-lap Street Stock main event. Hall dominated the race. He had a nearly six-second advantage over second place finisher Brent Lawrence. Phil Marino was in the second spot until lap 11. He spun around and brought out the yellow. Marino went to the pits to get a tire changed and thanks to Andy Forsberg, he was able to get back in the race. Forsberg was spotted helping Marino change his tire. The caution was the only thing to slow Hall down. He picked up his fifth win of the season. Currently, Hall has pretty much wrapped up the track title. Next week he just needs to take the green flag in the feature event to secure the championship. Richard Workman came home in the third spot. Fritz Zanker enjoyed a fourth-place finish. Travis Moore ran fifth.
The Earl’s Plumbing Hobby Stock feature event was another good race. Shannon Collins led the first lap before Kyle Allen passed him for the lead. Allen would go on and lead the next seven laps. On the 10th circuit Nick Vidovich made his move and passed Allen for the lead. Allen never gave up and continued to challenge Vidovich for the lead. But in the end Vidovich was just too good. He held off Allen to record his first win in nearly a year at the Silver Dollar Speedway. Allen finished second. Shannon Collins came home with a third-place finish. Colin Ferguson was fourth and Earl Adams finished fifth. Championship point leader Jeremy Langenderfer brought out the yellow on lap 16 and finished eighth.
Nine Vintage Hardtops were in attendance for their exhibition style racing. Ken Rezloff picked up the trophy in winning the main event.
The final point race of the season is next Friday night, August 24th. We will crown champions in the winged 360 sprints, sport mods, hobby stocks and street stocks. Plus, all four of the coveted Pepsi Night Trophies will be up for grabs.
