Majdic Earns First Career Win at Chico

Chico, CA (June 7, 2019) …. Chase Majdic earned his first career winged 360 sprint car win Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway. Majdic passed Justyn Cox on lap 22 of 30 and held on to win. Cox drove a good race and led the first 21 laps but was unable to seal his first career win at Chico. Yet, his time will come soon. The race was hampered with 10 caution flags and one red. Even through all the stoppages, Majdic was able to remain calm and do what he needed to get done and win the race. It was nice to see Majdic win. Somewhere Tyler Wolf was watching and approved. Majdic drove the Wolf car for Chuck Wolf and had good success in previous seasons.
Sean Becker started seventh but by lap seven he was running second. On lap 15, Becker passed Cox for the lead. However, coming off turn four Cox got a great run to the inside of Becker. As Becker’s car was pointed towards the bottom of turn one, both cars made contact that resulted in Becker coming to a stop with a broken front end.
Andy Forsberg’s night went south when he stopped on two separate occasions and was disqualified on lap 10. With Becker and Forsberg out of the race it was a fresh new look to the remaining drivers who were still racing. At one point, there were 13 cars left on track and only one driver had a previous win at Silver Dollar Speedway. That driver was Brad Bumgarner. The regime at this historic speedway is changing.
Bumgarner looked sharp all night. The semi-retired driver ran in top five all night and scored a third-place finish. Behind him it was a bunch of new faces. Blake Carrick is continuing his charge towards a first time win at Chico and finished fourth. John Clark drove a great race and finished fifth. Rookies Angelo Cornett and Carden Sarale are very impressive. They both ran top ten most of night and finished a respectable sixth and seventh. Michael Ing, Jake Haulot and Wyatt Brown rounded out the top ten.
Two drivers that didn’t get the finish they wanted should also be mentioned. Chelsea Blevins was up in the top 10 until a late race spin took her out of contention. Rookie driver Kyle Offill continues to impress and was running in the top 10 all night before he flipped off turn one on lap 22. These two will be a force the rest of the year at Chico.
Even though it was the first race of the season for the Street Stocks, they looked like the whole division hadn’t missed a beat. Phil Marino led the first 18 laps of the race. Shadowing him was Brent Lawrence. With two laps to go, Lawrence saw an opening and pounced. Lawrence passed Marino for the lead and went on to score the impressive victory. It was a great battle featuring two of the best in the business. Ryan Cherezian returned to Silver Dollar Speedway and it was a success. He scored an impressive third place finish after an early spin. Veteran Ken Micheli rounded out the top four and was the last driver scored on the lead lap. Matt Micheli won the dash and the second heat race. Richard Workman won the first heat.
On lap two of the Hobby Stock main event Kyle Allen spun not once but twice. The caution was waived, and he would restart at the rear of the field. Allen then drove with a purpose and raced his way back into the lead on lap 12. It was another impressive accomplishment for the champion driver. Jeremiah Creedon led the first six laps before getting passed by Travis Moore. Moore went on to lead the next six laps until he was passed by Allen. Moore then lost a tire and his race came to an end on lap 17. Creedon moved back into second and finished in that spot. Shannon Collins once again drove a solid race to finish third. James West and Mel Byers had a spirited battle for fourth. West ultimately won out and finished fourth. Allen swept the night by winning his heat race and the dash. Moore won the other heat race.
Ken Rezloff captured the Vintage Hardtop race. Ron Ruiz finished second. Those finishes were reversed in their prior heat race. Third went to Ken Clifford and fourth was Joe Hopp. Mario Romano was fifth.
