7th Annual David Tarter Memorial Set for Friday Night

Chico, CA (June 11, 2019) …. It is hard to believe that we lost David Tarter so long ago. Yet, it’s inspiring to think that his name continues to live on at his favorite place the Silver Dollar Speedway. This Friday night, we once again race in his honor. Thanks to his loving family and friends, they have raised extra money for the winged sprint cars. The main event will go 35-laps and pay a staggering $3,500 to win. Kyle Larson Racing is adding a $500 fast time award bonus. Other prizes are still be generated for the winged sprint cars. Also, on tap are the IMCA Sport Mods and the Street Stocks.
This Friday night all dads will get a discount. In celebration of Father’s Day Weekend, all dads will get into this Friday nights race for just $10. Whether you are a dad, or just want to bring dad out to the races, the $10 admission is a great way to spend some family time at a grass roots Chico tradition.
Pit gate opens at 4 PM. Front grandstand gate opens at 6 PM. Adult general admission is $15.00 (Dads $10). Seniors (62+) and juniors (12-15) and military with proper i.d. are $13.00. Children (6-11) are $6.00. Kids five and under are FREE. Parking for fans is FREE. Racing is slated to start at 7 PM.
David Tarter’s career was cut short after a pit accident that took his life. Tarter was a well liked and respected racer. He was widely known as having a spirited attitude. Tarter raced for many seasons at the Cycleland Speedway in the outlaw karts before moving into the winged sprint cars at Chico. Tarter won the Rookie of the Year award his first season. After he passed, the Speedway decided to rename the award the David Tarter Rookie of the Year Award in honor of him. Chelsea Blevins won the award last year.
Paradise’s Kyle Hirst is coming out of semi-retirement to try and continue his dominance of this event. Sean Becker won the original race in 2013 and Craig Stidham in 2015, but Hirst has won every other race. Hirst is now a 4-time winner of the Tarter Memorial capturing the big money in ‘14, ‘16, ‘17 and 2018.
Justyn Cox is the new point leader in the sprint car division. He holds an 18-point edge over Kalib Henry. Sean Becker is 21-points out. Andy Forsberg is 28-points behind Cox.
Andrew Peckham holds a three-point edge over Matt Micheli in the IMCA Sport Mod championship race. Jim Waller, Jason Ferguson and Brian Cooper round out the top five.
Kyle Allen continues to lead the Hobby Stock charge. Allen has won all four main events this season. Shannon Collins sits second and is 16-points behind Allen. James West holds down the third spot. Mel Byers and Jeremiah Creedon round out the top five in points.
