In the end, the fans were treated the best sprint car race of 2019. The thirty-lap thrilling feature was won by 4-time track champion Andy Forsberg. Yet, this race and win was anything but easy. In fact, Forsberg beat Kalib Henry to the finish line by 0.057 seconds. Nearly a photo finish. Following those two across the finish line was Shane Golobic, who always runs a good race. The fourth-place finisher was Dominic Scelzi. These top four locked themselves into tomorrow nights dash and a guaranteed spot in the main event.
The 30-lap main event started with Rico Abreu charging into the lead. Abreu won the dash that earned him the right to start on the pole position. The race was halted on lap three when Justin Sanders and Jonathan Allard collided in turn two. Sanders night was done with a busted front end. Allard continued.
Abreu led the first five laps until Forsberg got rolling on the bottom. On lap six Forsberg took the top spot, the first of seven different lead changes during the 30-lap race. Abreu continued to pound the top of the track while Forsberg was committed on the bottom. Those two switched the lead numerous times. Henry emerged as the new drive to catch on lap 15. He soared into the lead around both Abreu and Forsberg.
As the front three battled, it was fun to also watch drivers like Shane Golobic and Sean Becker race for fourth. Add in a charging Dominic Scelzi and Tim Kaeding to the mix. Bud Kaeding started deep in the field and was up inside the top ten with 10-laps to go.
Back up front it was the Henry versus Forsberg dash to the end. As laps wound down, each driver took a shot at the lead. With the white flag being displayed, Forsberg and Henry were dead locked. The two raced through turn one and off two side-by-side. Roaring into turn three, Henry ran the top and Forsberg on the bottom. As the two exited turn four, Forsberg had a slight edge and was able to drag race towards the checkered flag and beat Henry to the line.
Golobic finished third and Scelzi charged to fourth. Becker ran fifth and Abreu slipped to sixth. Kaeding was a mover and shaker and grabbed seventh. Willie Croft came home eighth. Michael Ing finished ninth. Allard rounded out the top ten.
