Justin Sanders wins Bill Brownell Memorial at Silver Dollar Speedway

By Silver Dollar Speedway PR (Chico, CA) -- Justin Sanders captured his fourth career win at Silver Dollar Speedway during Friday nights 12th annual Bill Brownell Memorial. Sanders pocketed a cool $3,000 for the win. It was his first Brownell Memorial win. Sanders led all 30 laps to get the win. The pit area was packed with 32 sprint car drivers ready to tackle the famed quarter-mile clay oval in Chico.

Fremont’s Shane Golobic fought hard all night to try and pass Sanders for the win. Even as the the two raced towards the checkered flag, Golobic made one last attempt but came up a car length short. Tim Kaeding charged from his eighth place starting spot to finish third. Mitchell Faccinto ran in the top five all night and came home fourth. Bud Kaeding was the hard charger of the night going from 13th to a fifth-place finish. The race was halted on lap 11 when Jason Statler took a wild ride off turn three. He walked away from the wreck, but his car was severely damaged. Dominic Scelzi spun on the opening late but restarted dead last and rebounded to finish in eighth.

Statler won the 12-lap B main event to get him into the feature. He was followed by Michael Ing, Richard Brace Jr., and Blake Carrick. Ing later scratched from the A main, allowing fifth place finishing Kyle Offill to take his spot.

Golobic was the final qualifier and turned in the best lap. His time was a 11.593. Heat race wins went to Faccinto, Sean Watts, Tim Kaeding and Geoff Ensign.
Sixteen IMCA Sport Mods took the green flag at the start of the 20-lap main event. Phil Marino led the first circuit. Keith Brown jumped from the third spot to first on lap two. Brown went on to lead the next nine laps. On lap 11, Brian Cooper took the lead. Cooper would lead the final nine circuits to get another win at Chico. Matt Micheli passed Brown with two to go and secured a second-place finish. Brown finished third. Tyler Rodgers was the show tonight. He started 11th but charged his way towards the front using the outskirts of the cushion all night. It was a blast to watch someone try and make the top work. He finished fourth.

Andrew Peckham had an up and down night. He was racing near the front when he spun, had to restart at the back but charged his way up to finish fifth. Jim Waller and Phil Marino each won an eight-lap heat race.

Kyle Allen started eight in the hobby stock main event. He then fell back to 14th by lap three before making an improbable run back to the front and won the 20-lap main event. It was quite an unbelievable drive that people will be talking about for a while. Not only did he win, but he took the lead on lap 13 after being in 14th spot ten laps prior. James West was consistent all night and finished second. Even with Allen’s heroics the drive of the night belonged to Mel Beyers who started 17th, dead last, and finished third. What a run! Devin Ryan put on a good show all night and finished fourth. Ryan originally started 13th. Shannon Collins is such a great competitor. He was able to come home in the fifth spot. Devin Ryan won the second heat. Keith Ross captured the win in heat three. Kyle Allen swept the night by winning the first heat.
