Sanders and Winter Win Opening Night of Silver Cup

(Chico, CA 3/5/21)…Justin Sanders wins opening night of the Silver Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway.  Sanders picked up his sixth career win at Chico driving Dale Miller’s beautiful No. 4sa sprint car.  A total of 37-winged 360 sprint cars and 26 dwarf cars entered the Friday night show.  The race was broadcast on dirtovaltv.com.  The 4,000 seat grandstands and bleachers were empty because of Covid-19 restrictions.

Max Mittry and Joel Myers Jr. started on the front row.  Mittry jumped out to the lead.  Those two teenagers ran first and second for the first seven laps.  Sanders moved into the second spot on lap eight.  Andy Forsberg was able to move from his fourth spot to third on lap 13 when he passed Myers Jr.  On lap 16 Sanders passed Mittry for the lead.  Sanders rocketed to the top spot and began to pull away.  Blake Carrick brought out the final caution on lap 19.  Sanders was able extend his lead after the restart and won the race with ease.  Mittry finished a career best second place finish.  Forsberg ran third.  Myers hung on for fourth and Tanner Carrick rounded out the top five.

Sean Becker won the 12-lap B main event.  Tyler Driever won the 10-lap C Main event.

Blake Carrick was the fastest qualifier.  His lap time was 12.398.  Blake went on to win heat one.  Older brother Tanner won heat two.  Caden Sarale won the third heat.  Justin Sanders won the fourth heat.

Ryan Winter won a crazy Dwarf Car main event.  The race had four yellows and a red flag.  The red was for Shawn Whitney who flipped in turn three on lap 14.  Mike Reeder jumped out to the early lead.  On lap four Shawn Whitney took the top spot.  Shawn Jones moved into the top spot-on lap seven.  That lead lasted until lap 14 when Jones unexpectedly pulled off with mechanical problems.  Winter assumed the lead on the lap 14 restart.  Winter went on to win his 11th career main event feature at Chico.  Tommy Velasquez III was impressive all night.  He finished in the second spot.  Reeder finished third.  Nick Velasquez finished fourth and Ben Wiesz fifth.  Kevin Bender won the 12-lap B main.  Shawn Jones won the first heat.  Winter got the win in heat two.  Anthony Pope dominated the third heat race.  Nick Velasquez was the winner of heat four.
