Golobic Wins NIght One of Summer Nationals

Golobic Snares Summer Nationals Triumph; Allen & Shelby Also Victorious

(June 3rd, 2022)…..Friday night brought the return of roaring sprint car engines to the ¼ mile clay oval Silver Dollar Speedway. The Summer Nationals kicked off the first of two nights of competition. Friday night’s event featured the 360 Sprint Cars, B-Modifieds & Hobby Stocks thrill the crowd with fantastic racing throughout the night. In total 82 cars signed into the pit area with an astounding 61 of those being sprint cars.

The sprint car Main Event had the crowd elated. The race for the win was an incredible display of precision throughout the frontrunners. Jake Morgan lined up on the Pole Position with Andy Forsberg to his outside. At the drop of the green, Forsberg jumped out to the early race lead ahead of Mitchell Faccinto & Tanner Carrick. On Lap 2 the yellow would halt things as Chase Majdic, Jodie Robinson & Chance Grasty tangled in turn two. A lap after the restart the Red Flag would fly as the #121 of Caeden Steele took the hardest tumble of the night into turn one. He climbed from the car under his own power and took a quad ride to the trailer, ending his night. With still just three laps completed, Forsberg once again led to the restart. The battle behind him early in the race was incredible between Faccinto, Golobic, & Carrick. Carrick made his way into the second spot and started setting his sights on the race lead. With 12 laps complete the Red Flag would halt things once again as Gauge Garcia & Jodie Robinson both flipped right in front of the race leader Forsberg. Forsberg narrowly avoided disaster and was able to safely come to a stop. On this restart, the battle for the lead would heat up immensely. Tanner Carrick started really making progress on the top side of the racetrack. He actually got the lead briefly on Lap 13 but Forsberg’s consistency on the bottom continued to net him the lead. Carrick kept pounding away at it up top all while Shane Golobic & Corey Day closed in on the top spot as well. Another yellow would halt the excitement up front as Steel Powell spun in turn four on Lap 18. A couple laps after the restart, Shane Golobic was able to get under the #83t of Carrick and  take over second. He then began to mount the charge on Forsberg. Forsberg never left the bottom of the racetrack, Golobic was chucking the #17w into this first set of turns on the top side and on Lap 24 he finally made it stick as he cleared Forsberg down the back stretch and dropped to the bottom in Turn 3 to secure the top spot. From there Golobic would open up the advantage over the final 5 laps in route to his 8th career Silver Dollar Speedway victory in the Elk Grove Ford/NOS Energy Drink #17w. Despite leading 24 laps, Andy Forsberg had to settle for the runner up position in 2nd, with Corey Day 3rd. Tanner Carrick finished 4th & DJ Netto rounded out the top five.

In B-Modified competition we saw the #86 of Phillip Shelby earn his 12 career win in the B-Modified Class. Despite having just 7 cars in the pit area for the night’s event, the B-Modifieds put on a great show that featured some thrilling battles for the win. Tyler Rodgers led early on in his #44 entry but Shelby proved to be too strong and drove by and into the race lead. Tyler Rodgers would hold on to finish 2nd. Keith Foux has been fun to watch in B-Mod competition this year, he put together another great run in the #20b entry and came home in the 3rd position. Paradise, CA driver Justin Funkhouser ran 4th, while Scott Savell rounded out the top five.

The Shelby’s Pest Control Hobby Stocks saw yet another fantastic finish bring the crowd to their feet. Early in the Main Event it was the #79 of Maurice Merrill leading the way. Merrill ran a nearly flawless race at the front of the field, holding multi time Champion Kyle Allen at bay for much of the race. That would come screeching to a halt with one minor miscue in turns one & two. Merrill got a little over rotated and then got clipped by Allen in his #21a entry causing him to spin around and to a stop in turn two. That handed the lead over to Kyle Allen with Travis Moore hot on his heels. It looked like it was going to be a battle between those two, but Zach Lindgren had other thoughts. Just like he did back in April, Zach was letting it all hang out on the top side of the racetrack and nearly stole the win in the late stages. In the end though Kyle Allen crossed the stripe first for his 17th Career Win. Zach Lindgren wound up getting to the second spot in a photo finish with Travis Moore who finished in third. Fourth place went to the #69 of Robert Arruda, while Scott Rogers rounded out the top five in his #88 entry.

Preliminary action saw Mitchell Faccinto turn the fastest lap in Sprint Car qualifying with a Lap Time of 11.966 seconds. He took home the Fast Time money ($100) courtesy of Paul Olmsted Plastering. Sprint Car Heat Race wins went to Corey Day, Tanner Carrick, Kaleb Montgomery & Andy Gregg. Keith Foux won the one and only B-Modified Heat. Kyle Allen & Zach Lindgren each won Hobby Stock Heat Races. Colby Thornhill won the Sprint Car Non-Qualifier Event. Tyler Thompson scored the C-Main Event victory & John Clark punched his ticket to the Main Event by winning the night’s B-Main Event.

Saturday Night, June 4th we’re back in action as we welcome in the Sprint Car Challenge Tour for the 9th Edition of the Tyler Wolf Memorial Race. They will be accompanied by the California Lightning Sprints. Another large field of cars is expected as the teams will vie for the one of a kind Tyler Wolf Memorial Perpetual Trophy!
