Dominic Scelzi Scores 5th Career Win at Chico
Dominic Scelzi Scores 2nd Win of 2022 at Silver Dollar

(8/26/22)…The 2022 season at Silver Dollar, albeit a short one, had yet to provide a repeat winner in the Sprint Car division until last night’s 360 Sprint Car Main Event saw the #41 of Dominic Scelzi pick up the popular victory. The win was the 5th of his career at Silver Dollar Speedway for the Fresno, CA driver.
The night began with Qualifying Time Trials for the 360 Sprint Cars. The #29 of Willie Croft was fastest overall turning a lap of 12.181 seconds around the ¼ mile bullring. Croft now has 33 career Fast Times in Sprint Car competition at the speedway. Heat Race action saw Willie Croft continue to show good speed in his #29 entry as he took Heat Race #1. Heat #2 was claimed by Lincoln, CA driver Tanner Carrick in his #83t entry. The 3rd Heat Race saw Aromas, CA driver Justin Sanders score the victory. While the 4th and final Heat Race was won by the #75m of Tony Gomes of Modesto, CA.
One of the most interesting parts of the night was the first ever Bicycle Race Dash to set the front four rows of the Sprint Car Main Event! All the drivers scheduled to start in those positions grabbed a bicycle and raced them against each other on the front straightaway. The winner was Casey Schmitz as he earned the Pole Position for the night’s 30 Lap Main Event.
In preliminary Main Event competition, the #21w of Josh Wiesz of Colfax, CA picked up the C-Main Win to move into the B-Main Event and Josh’s father Colby Wiesz scored the B-Main Event win in the Jim Richardson owned #8 entry.
When the 30 Lap Main Event went Green it was initially the #3c of Casey Schmitz that would jump out to the early lead, but it was Tony Gomes who would rip around the top side of the racetrack to move into the race lead at the conclusion of the opening lap. Meanwhile Dominic Scelzi was beginning his charge from the 7th starting position. In just 3 laps Scelzi moved all the way up to 2nd and began tracking down Gomes for the race lead. The track had two distinct grooves around it. One thin lane of grip around the infield berm and the other option was to let it all hang out on the top side of the track, there was no in between. Scelzi was hounding Gomes as they worked through slower traffic. Gomes had to change up his line to begin working past some of the slower cars and that’s when Scelzi pounced. He took the lead away on Lap 14 and held it from there to the end of the race. Late in the running, Shane Golobic made a charge at the lead from his 9th starting spot but ultimately settled for the 2nd position in his NOS Energy Drink/Matt Wood Racing entry. Justin Sanders piloted the Dale Miller owned #4sa to a 3rd place finish. While Tanner Carrick & Tony Gomes rounded out the Top 5 finishers.
We will be back in action at the Silver Dollar Speedway in less than two weeks as the Gold Cup Race of Champions will begin on Wednesday, September 7th and run through Saturday, September 10th with four nights of exciting action.
